... I ran into something new with a chew. These fine Asheville subdivision folks wanted a John (bathroom for you city folks or folks named “John”) in the basement remodel. Now I ain’t one of those plumb professional plumbers, but I am slick enough to know that basement toilets go slap against one of the major gravity laws of plumbing. But low and behold, they now have a toilet with a churner and pumper that will shoot the bull plumb up to a major height of 12 feet. Now that is big stuff.
These fine folks asked me early in the week if I had any experience with such high technology and I had to shoot straight with my answer – “Naw, I don’t have much experience with a toilet that pumps up hill, but I have worked with some bosses in the past year or so that should have me trained on the plumbing of a toilet that can pump bull to the degree of reaching pretty tall pines.”
You know, I guess this extensive work on this fine Ebay bought basement bound toilet really captured my noggin as I worked to plumb ‘er up hill and wire electricity to her (now there is a scary thought – a toilet wired to 110). It seems that every where I turn, I run into the demise of folk’s word. As folks hit me up to work on their homes I continue to get these horror stories of how they have been lied to or cheated. They tell me that they are just looking for someone to trust. Scary, ain’t it?
Isn’t it refreshing to run into those folks who you just absolutely know are good for their word?
Now, how in the world can we turn the pipe on this devotion to get somewhere which God may forgive my approach?
Just as there are a couple of rules of plumbing that have seemed to be misplaced by technology, there are a few rules written upon a few stone tablets, by the finger of God, that seemed to have been misplaced by progress. It appears that our culture overlooks and sometimes rewards the ones willing to compromise “Thou shall not lie.”
I have set the pipe on both sides of the septic tank – I have been shot by it and I have shot it in my day. I have found that it is just plain down nasty either way. I think God may be just trying to help us with His “Thou shall not’s.” As I spent a great deal of time plumbing this fancy uphill booster, I realized that a great deal of energy is required when we try to turn the tide – both in septic and in truth.
We will likely have an opportunity in the near future to plumb from the basement or plumb from the upper story.
Today’s prayer: May we take the route that shoots straight.
Be Blessed and have a marvelous weekend,
Country Side
